Coach Garrett

Garrett Drake has been playing soccer for over 20 years and coaching for 15, working with players from toddlers to college level. Originally from Maryland, he played club soccer with Bayshore United and Maryland United, a former affiliate of D.C. United. As a player, he gained experience in every position on the field—starting as a goalkeeper, moving to defense and midfield, and even playing striker for fun.

From a young age, Garrett knew he wanted to coach. He began coaching his local middle school team while still in high school and later worked with the coaching staff at Baldwin Wallace University during college. After graduating, he joined Soccer Shots in Connecticut, where he was quickly promoted to Assistant Director of Coaches. He currently holds a USSF F license and is working to update it under the new system.

Garrett’s coaching style focuses on building confident, well-rounded players by blending skill development with fun, high-energy games. He believes in teaching lessons that extend beyond the field—like communication, discipline, and teamwork. Garrett is passionate about helping kids grow through the game and hopes every player leaves his sessions more inspired and excited to play.

Based in Woodburn, he offers private and group sessions within 30 miles, including Tigard, Tualatin, Lake Oswego, and the Salem area.

Coach Kal

Soccer is an instrumental aspect of Coach Kal’s life, as she began playing at 5 years old. She began at a recreational league and progressed her soccer career into competitive teams in Oregon, Idaho, and Washington. Her skills were best displayed as she played striker for various clubs and her High School team.

Kal focuses on cultivating a balanced training experience with each player, adapting to each individuals needs. She believes in a positive experience and helping players learn to love the sport in their own way. Kal says that everyone possesses different skillsets and that is what ultimately creates a well rounded team.

From the basics to technical skills and advancement, coach Kal develops new players into confident future team mates. A focus area she strives to instill is a respectful, supportive, and continually improving atmosphere to include every level of player.

Coach Kal is available for private and small group sessions within 35 minutes of Northern Vancouver such as Battleground, Ridgefield, Camas, and Northern Portland.
